Big Pharma & Psychiatry & FDA, Mental Health for a Profit

by admin on September 8, 2010

Dr. Breeding discussing the corporate influence of Big Pharma on mental health, psychiatry, the public mental health system, the FDA, university research and your doctor in the United States. This includes a discussion of conflicts of interest which are used to shape public policy, influence research, influence oversight and set the mental health agenda for mass marketing of psychotropic drugs in the guise of mental health screening and suicide prevention. I wouldn’t call these inquisitors doctors, because a doctor is a healer & a psychiatrist is far from it!

I also found anti- depressants EXTREMELY addictive. One of the drug companies had a big conference in the 90′s after which it was decided they would replace the term addictive with ‘withdrawal syndrome or anti-depressant discontinuation syndrome. Please believe me when I say – the symptoms one can experience from this withdrawal syndrome is FAR worse than they sound on paper. My advice – NEVER take these drugs unless you have tried everything else first! Aerobic exercise is more effective!

@ bando8000 : No, I thought the same thing. Allen Jones – I wikipedia’d him, he’s real and its just like this guy says.

I personally experienced the damaging effects of anti-psychotic and bipolar drugs. My memory and concentration will never be at acceptable levels due to these drugs. ( I didnt have these problems before starting treatment, of course) Trouble is – I, like most, wouldn’t have believed all this could be true before it happened to me.

Maybe being ill is normal…. What happens when becoming mentally ill is normal?? Actually, we might already be there…its all a statistical mean……If you wanna know what people do to really succeed in this country don’t follow the mean but follow the others that don’t behave in the mean. You might be the richest guy in the cemetery!

The Unitarian Church is damn infested with “clinically normative mental health professionals.” THEY are our new CHRISTS who want to “save” us from nonexistent illnesses which they invent (slaves who wanted to escape were diseased in the mind; women in pants were hallucinating and today, a man in a skirt runs afoul of these INQUISITORS.) Behavior has virtually nothing to do with medicine. Psychiatry has no business in any courtroom. I want to sell a Mental Health Lady doll who rattles away.

I don’t see how psychotropics help anyone do their scuzzy or honky hairdos, help them not to wear cotton with too many boll weevils, etc. Maybe they could distribute nice fresh cotton plaid shirts like they wear in Chile! Instead of psychotropics!

The “complex variables” are the way the “patients” wear their hair. In 2006 a mental health program for San Antonio gave out psychotropics, told people about cholesterol and not to wear hair grease. How would psychotropics help anyone to do their hair? Wide bristle brushes ought to be distributed in the South Dakota Wind Cave Nat Park area and maybe mental health or messy hair could be prevented…..I dont see how psychotropics could help either the scuzzy or the honkies do their hair

The rats are jumping ship.

CHEMRISK – a research company hired by the Corn Refiners has recently taken down it’s YouTube page.

The removal was in response to negative public perception resulting from the high-fructose corn syrup ad campaign. Apparently it has become a liability to defend the sweetener.

See the last remaining ChemRisk video at CornRefinersAssoc on YouTube.

Wow. You have it right! How much education does one need to sit and listen to someone and occasionally say “Yes, I see.” Psychiatrists should wear a bone through their noses so everyone would know where they were coming from.

It needs to be known to everyone the powerful ways Big Pharma pollutes our doctors with money to market to citizens who put trust in these doctors for help. So many people and especially kids don’t really need these drugs at all. For those that do need them and are helped, that’s great, but for the others, they need to know the bias these doctors have to “pimp” the drug off on us. Very bad to have these conflicts of interest.

when I say “vast chasm” I mean that..a person must fit..or there is simply something wrong with them..this is what seems to be implied by society..I say life is problematic and unpredictable, and people exhibit a broad range of characteristics, and it is natural and too be expected that a lot of people can get caught between the cars of life, and we need to have ideas for plans to help people find a life style, where they can exist freely..thanks for hearing me!

it’s too vast a chasm between, “normal” and the persons who have a harder time (for what ever reason, because someone has a hard time fitting, keeping pace, or they have more sensitive disposition, doesn’t mean they are flawed or intrinsically less than those who fit, this is an implication that needs to be recognized and done away with) for people who have had breakdowns, they are simply stigmatized and drugged, w/o due attention to anything except the “Flawed” nature of the psychiatric patient

There are so many complex variables that need to be considered when people are treated for mental, spiritual, psychological wellness. People, even of the same race class, ethnicity, gender and household demonstrate an amazing spectrum of characteristics, temperaments. Add to that all the external circumstances, family dysfunction, nutrition, class, current trends. People need time, resource availability, inclusion, self determination, life style schemes and alternatives and options

Thanks for those kind words…it really gets difficult for me at times, too difficult to try to explain to most, especially people who are prepared to not care or understand, knowing there is others in the world who feel similar makes me feel a little better
Peace and keep the faith!
I’ll do my best too!

my life is so complex & I completely agree with what you said about some people who have never had a bad mental experience criticizing those of us who have, thinking that it is a trivial matter & we should just get on with it! The mind fractures when you have a traumatic experience in your childhood & has adverse effects on you as an adult and inhibits you from joining (normal) society! people can be so cruel & in-tolerent! I am thinking of studying Pyshcology when I am a little better:)

Thankyou so much for all the advise:) I can tell that you too have suffered BUT I have to say you seem like an extremely strong & intelligent person! I hope everything in you’re own life continues to improve and that you get all the things that you’re heart & mind deserves:) I will defo try all those things you suggested!
