Do You Think You Have Bed Bugs? Here Are Two Clues

by Margaret Bailey on December 19, 2009

Bed bugs are insects that cause itches and rashes, and beds are their most common area. You may already have them and you don’t even know it. These creatures are miniscule and hard to see. The best way to get rid of them is to ask a pest control company or termite exterminator to do the job.

You may wonder what the signs and symptoms of a bed bug infestation are The following are the two most common signs:

1. Rash From Bed Bugs

The rash begins with an itching sensation. You won’t be able to see the rash at first but it will definitely feel itchy. They are itchier than mosquito bites, and the itch can usually be felt 1 hour after the bite. In some cases, the rash appears only a few days or weeks later.

A bed bug rash has a small, round and red bump that looks more swollen than a mosquito rash. In some cases, the rash looks a lot like a bite mark in sequence. Should you suspect a bed bug rash, examine it for a few days. The rash causes long-term itching for days together. A bed bug rash also doesn’t heal as quickly as mosquito bites. Sometimes, they remain swollen for weeks.

2. Smell of Bed Bugs

Next thing to look for is bed bug smell. What smell do they give off?

A hotel where there’s plenty of bed bug infestation has a musty, obnoxious odor that bed bugs release. Under the headboard and mattresses are common places where they can be smelled. Sofas are also sometimes infested with bed bugs. If they have cracks, check if they’ve got bed bug odor.

You should call pest control experts at once if you happen to have a bed bug infestation. Afterwards, you should perform pest control measures at home to prevent it from happening again.
